Greylock Thunder Opens Home Tourney with Win

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Avery Lane and Gianna Witek each homered Friday as the Greylock Thunder 14U travel softball team opened its second annual Summer Storm Tournament with a 14-6 win over Dalton on Francis Millard Field.
 
Lane went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and Witek was 2-for-4 with five RBIs in a 16-hit attack for the Thunder.
 
Lydia Gaudreau went 3-for-3 at the top of the order, and Ava Jagello was 2-for-2 at the plate.
 
Kyleigh Cooper went the distance in the circle for Greylock, striking out eight while scattering four hits in five innings of work.

 

 
Kaylee Prew went the distance for Dalton, striking out a pair. Abby Munday went 2-for-3 with a double and a pair of RBIs in the loss.
 
The three-day tournament kicks into gear on Saturday morning when five teams come to town.
 
Greylock plays the first of its three Saturday games against the Dutchess (N.Y.) Debs at 8 a.m. Dalton takes on Elite Fastpitch at 8 a.m.

North Shore Shuts Out SteepleCats

LYNN, Mass. -- John Hegarty gave up one hit in five innings of work on Saturday to led the North Shore Navigators to a 4-0 win over the North Adams SteepleCats in New England Collegiate Baseball League action.
 
Nklas Pavia went six innings on the mound for the SteepleCats, striking out six and allowing three runs.
 
Nelphie Lopez' double and Evan Meier's single accounted for North Adams' offense.
 
The SteepleCats (4-13) are home on Sunday for a double-header against Navigators (8-11) starting at 2 p.m.
