A true eclectic adventurist (People), Midón continues to push boundaries. Seamlessly blending bebop and Broadway, Kate Kortum has turned the heads of millions as one of the most compelling new artists in jazz today. A Juilliard graduate and winner of the 2025 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition, Kortum has become a familiar face on the most iconic stages in jazz including Birdland, Blue Note, Mezzrow, Dizzy's Club, SXSW Festival, and Jazz at Lincoln Center.

Kortum has toured internationally and collaborated with modern jazz leaders including Bryan Carter, Peter Bernstein, Wynton Marsalis and the world renowned Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.

Her debut album, Good Woman, reimagines jazz standards originally written by men, reclaiming them through bold arrangements and a distinctly female perspective. The record and her follow-up LP Wild Woman have been met with acclaim leading to over 5.1 million streams. Alongside her solo career, Kate Kortum is a member of The Sunhouse Singers, a New York-based vocal trio with vocalists June Cavlan and Joie Bianco. Together, the trio have been featured in projects from Bryan Carter, Charlie Rosen, Christian Wiggs, and Emmet Cohen – appearing on the award-winning program "Live from Emmet's Place."

Benny Goodman’s musical legacy reaches beyond jazz. Bartók’s Contrasts, written for Goodman and violinist Joseph Szigeti, shares the program with Mozart’s beloved Clarinet Quintet as Close Encounters With Music opens its 35th season.

Clarinetist Alexander Fiterstein brings these two works into focus: Mozart’s singing lines and the beauty of the clarinet among the strings, and Bartók’s restless exchanges between clarinet, violin and piano. Beethoven’s spirited Trio in B-flat major, Op. 11, and music by Gershwin complete the afternoon.

Fiterstein performs with pianist Michael Chertock, violinists Xiao-Dong Wang and Helena Baillie, violist Daniel Panner, and cellist and artistic director Yehuda Hanani. Hanani’s lively commentary explores the people and cultural circumstances behind the music, offering more to listen for in each work.

PENNY ARCADE (aka Susana Ventura) is an internationally respected writer, poet, actress and theatre maker, and one of a handful of artists who created and continue to define performance art. Penny debuted with John Vaccaro’s explosive Playhouse of the Ridiculous at age 17, and was a Warhol Factory Superstar at 19, featured in the Andy Warhol's Women in Revolt. With an artistic career spanning almost 50 years, Arcade occupies a unique position in the American avant-garde. HM Koutoukas referred to her as ‘the little sister of the avant-garde’ because of her long association with the architects of the American counter culture movement: Andy Warhol, Charles Henri Ford, John Vaccaro, Judith Malina, Taylor Mead, Jack Smith, Harry Smith, Tom O’Horgan, and Charles Ludlam among others.

Her focus on the creation of community and inclusion as the goals of performance and her efforts to use performance as a trans-formative act, mark her as a true original in the American theatre. In this context, Penny has written over ten full-length shows including La Miseria, Sisi Sings the Blues, Bad Reputation and New York Values as well as and hundreds of solos. Her world famous sex and censorship show, Bitch! Dyke! Faghag! Whore!, has been performed in over 30 cities around the world and was successfully revived as a ‘landmark production’ (London Times) for its 20th anniversary in 2012.

In 1991, Quentin Crisp chose Arcade as the woman he most identified with, naming her his anima figure and soul mate. Their friendship became professional as they undertook many performances together until his death at age 91. An Evening with Quentin Crisp and Penny Arcade is now available on DVD to mark Mr. Crisp’s centennial, and the actress Cynthia Nixon portrayed Arcade in the film on Mr. Crisp’s New York life, An Englishman in New York with John Hurt.

In 2010, Semiotexte/MIT Press published a hardcover book on Arcade called “Bad Reputation: performances, essays, interviews.” Her award winning documentary The Lower East Side Biography Project, Stemming The Tide of Cultural Amnesia which she co-creates with long-time collaborator Steve Zehentner is broadcast weekly in New York on Ch 34 Time Warner and RCN 112 and simultaneously at mnn.org.

Returning to The Foundry for the fourth time, Itay Dayan and his Band are coming for an unforgettable night of klezmer – with a few surprises along the way. The evening will feature classic bulgars, beloved Yiddish songs, and original compositions infused with Middle Eastern flavors.

Itay Dayan (b. 1999) is a clarinetist and singer-songwriter who has established himself as a prominent figure in the global Klezmer and Jewish music scene, and is now carving a path as an independent artist. His original works weave together his deep roots in Klezmer with the influences of contemporary Israeli music and artists.

As a clarinetist, Itay maintains an extensive international career performing with two leading ensembles in the field: the Israel Klezmer Orchestra and the Klezmer Conservatory Band. He performs regularly on stages across Israel, Europe, and the United States. He earned his musical education at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance and the New England Conservatory in Boston.

Beyond his work as a performer, Itay is involved in a wide range of stage projects. These span from producing and performing the Israeli premiere of Oded Lev-Ari’s Triple Helix (2022) to writing and producing the original children's show A Giant Cooked Soup (2023) in collaboration with the Israel Klezmer Orchestra. In 2024, his Klezmer album Hoffman’s Farewell received significant acclaim, being named one of the local albums of the year by Boston's WBUR.

Since 2025, Itay has shifted his focus toward his solo career, releasing a series of successful singles. These include "The Champ" (a tribute to Ibrahim Maalouf) and "In Twos", which garnered tens of thousands of streams.

Currently, Itay is putting the finishing touches on his upcoming album, Only Questions for Now (Rak She'elot Beinteyam). The album features his newest single, "Standing Still" (Omed BaMakom), released in February 2026, and is set for full release later this year.

Itay’s artistic development and career have been generously supported by the America-Israel Cultural Foundation, the Ronen Foundation, the Sidai Prize for Musical Creativity and the Zvi and Ofra Meitar Family Fund.

The Kwintet is a group of musicians put together by musician and composer Luke Seto in the spirit of connection, spontaneity, and creativity.

Luke Seto is a saxophonist, woodwind specialist, composer, and educator based in New York City. Embracing all different types of music, they have studied at New England Conservatory Preparatory School and the Conservatory of Jazz at Purchase College. Luke believes it is the artist’s duty to bare their soul to the audience, with the hope that it encourages them to do the same in their own lives. In the tradition of jazz, they value the unrivaled power of a band that moves together, putting emotion, honesty, and empathy first in their music.
