Nicholas Carr Presentation at Mass MoCA

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Nicholas Carr, a commentator on the human impact of technology, is scheduled to deliver a presentation titled "Superbloom" at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art on Thursday, June 26, at 5 p.m.
 
According to a press release:
 
Carr's presentation will address modern communication, examining how messaging applications affect nuance, how "digital crowding" may diminish empathy, and how online political discourse might influence perception. He will also discuss how AI advancements are impacting the distinction between reality and fantasy. The event will explore what Carr describes as the human psyche's challenges in adapting to the extensive information generated by current technology. 
 
Tickets are $5 in advance, with the cost redeemable against purchases in the R&D Store on the program night. Admission is free for members.

SteepleCats Fall in Extra Innings

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The Ocean State Waves scored four runs in the top of the 11th and went on to a 9-6 win over the SteepleCats in the New England Collegiate Baseball League.
 
Jack LaRose went 3-for-5 with a double in the game-winning rally.
 
North Adams (1-9) had a golden opportunity to win the game in the bottom of the 10th.
 
With the game tied, 5-5, Nelphie Lopez started the inning with a sacrifice bunt to advance Bobby Stang, the "ghost runner," to third base. Ocean State (3-8) then intentionally walked the next two hitters to load the bases with one out.
 
Waves reliver Andrew Jacobs then got a 1-2-3 double play to end the inning.
 
Jacobs struck out a pair and allowed one unearned run in the bottom of the 11th in three innings of work to earn the win.
 
North Adams used five pitchers. Joe LaPrade struck out a pair and allowed no runs in two innings of work.
