Hoosac Softball, Pittsfield Baseball Seeded First in State Tournaments

The Hoosac Valley softball team and Pittsfield baseball team were installed as No. 1 seeds in their respective state tournaments when the MIAA released the brackets on Wednesday morning.
 
The undefeated Hurricanes (19-0) are at the top of a 39-team field in Division 5 softball and await the winner of a preliminary round game between No. 33 Muniz Academy of Boston and No. 32 Norfolk Aggie of Walpole.
 
The top 32 teams according to the statewide power rankings make the tournament field, along with any teams that have a .500 record but fall outside the top 32.
 
In Division 3 baseball, there are 46 teams who qualified for the state tournament field.
 
No. 1 Pittsfield (18-3) awaits the winner of No. 33 Pembroke and No. 32 Medway.
 
Taconic (8-11) joins Pittsfield in the D3 field as the No. 27 seed and will be home in the tournament’s play-in round against No. 38 Cardinal Spellman.
 
Eight of the county’s 10 high school baseball teams qualified for state tournament play in three divisions.
 
In D4, No. 13 Wahconah (16-5) will be home in the first round against either No. 45 Westport or No. 20 Mashpee.
 
The Division 5 field includes No. 4 Drury (14-6), No. 37 Lee (10-9), No. 14 Lenox (12-7), No. 30 McCann Tech (6-11) and No. 7 Mount Everett (17-2). 
 
The five county teams are spread out in the D5 field. The earliest two could play one another is in the Sweet 16, if McCann Tech wins its home game in the preliminaries and beats No. 3 seed Hopkins Academy in the first round and No. 14 Lenox survives against No. 19 Rockport in the Round of 32.
 
Eight of Berkshire County’s 11 softball teams earned spots in state tournament brackets.
 
In addition to No. 1 Hoosac Valley, the Division 5 field includes No. 23 Drury (6-13), No. 31 Lee (3-15), No. 9 Lenox (12-7) and No. 13 McCann Tech (16-3).
 
Three local softball teams qualified in Division 4.
 
The highest-ranked team in that bracket is No. 7 Wahconah (16-4), which awaits a preliminary round game between No. 39 East Boston and No. 26 Ayer Shirley.
 
The D4 softball field also includes No. 31 Monument Mountain (8-11) and No. 29 Mount Greylock (7-11), who both will be home in the play-in round.
