Lenox Falls to Greenfield in Epic Western Mass Final

HOLYOKE, Mass. -- Malik Moore hit a two-out RBI single to right in bottom of the 17th to give the Greenfield baseball team a 4-3 win over Lenox in the Western Massachusetts Class C Championship Game on Saturday.
 
Three Lenox pitchers combined to give up three earned runs in the marathon loss.
 
Mason Daley led the way, throwing 117 pitches in 9 and two-thirds innings on the mound. He struck out five, walked none, scattered eight hits and left with the game tied, 1-1.
 
Seamus Cooney pitched the equivalent of a complete game, going 7 innings in relief and ended up the hard-luck loser after allowing three runs -- two earned.
 
Neither team scored until the top of the eighth, when Blake Hoff doubled in a run to give Lenox a 1-0 lead.
 
Greenfield answered right away with a run in the bottom of the eighth to tie it,and the extra innings continued.
 
In the 12th Robbie Bazinet hit a line drive single to right to drive in a run and give Lenox a 2-1 lead, but Greenfield got that run back in the bottom of the inning.
 
In the 16th, Lenox again took a lead, this time on Bryce Hoff's RBI triple to center field.
 
But, again, the Green Wave was able to scratch out a run in the bottom of the frame, this time on a sacrifice fly.
 
After a 1-2-3 inning for Greenfield pitcher Connor Bergeron (8 and a third innings pitched) in the top of the 17th, Luca Siano led off the bottom of the inning with a single.
 
He moved up on a sacrifice bunt and a fly ball out before scoring from third on Moore's game-winning single.
 
Lenox (12-7) learns Wednesday who it will begin play against in the Division 5 State Tournament.
