SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Darius Taliaferro drove in the game’s only run and threw three innings on the mound on Monday as the Mount Everett baseball team opened the season with a 1-0 win over South Hadley.

Taliaferro combined with Brodie Kinna on the shutout victory. The pair struck out eight and walked just three while scattering four hits.

The Eagles got the only offense the pair needed in the top of the fifth.

Johnny Ireland worked a two-out walk, and Taliaferro crushed a triple to center field to chase Ireland home.

Brady Carpenter and Gavin Snyder had the only other hits allowed by the Tigers.

Mount Everett (1-0) is at Easthampton on Wednesday.
