Lee Edged in Final at State Championship
GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. – The Chicopee Comprehensive bowling team Saturday came from behind to beat Lee, 2-1, in the final match of the State Championship tournament at Cove Lanes.
After the Wildcats started the best-of-three final with a 180-130 Baker format win, the Colts bounced back with wins of 191-141 and 189-135 to take the title.
Chicopee Comp was the fourth-seeded team going to the tournament’s match-play phase.
St. John’s of Shrewsbury, which got a 300 game from Nick Ciragli in the qualifying phase, was the No. 1 team among nine vying for a state crown.
Taconic and Lee qualified second and third, respectively, for the semi-finals.
The Wildcats knocked off their Berkshire County rivals, 2-0, by scores of 166-157 and 173-135.
Chicopee Comp edged St. John’s, 183-182, in their first Baker game and cruised to a 203-173 win to get to the title match.
In addition to the 300 from Ciragli, St. John’s rolled the best Baker game of 34 rolled at the tournament, a 269 in the qualifying phase.
McCann Tech and Monument Mountain also competed in the tournament.
Many of the same bowlers who competed on Saturday will return to action on Sunday morning at K&M Bowling in Pittsfield to go for individual state titles.
Cariglia ended up with the best two-game series in the team qualifying round on Saturday, posting a 490.
The next-highest result in the tournament's first phase came from Taconic's Luzis Brown with a 448 (257-191).
Devyn Fillio led Lee in the qualifying round with games of 210 and 184 for a 394 series.
