Berkshire VNA is Nationally Recognized as a Superior Performer

PITTSFIELD, Mass.— Berkshire Visiting Nurse Association (BVNA), the homecare division of Berkshire Medical Center, has been recognized by Strategic Healthcare Programs (SHP) as a "Superior Performer" for achieving an overall patient experience score that ranked in the top 20 percent of all eligible SHP clients for the 2025 calendar year.

The annual SHPBest award program was created to acknowledge home health agencies that consistently provide high-quality service to their patients. The 2025 award recipients were determined by reviewing and ranking the overall experience score for more than 3,200 home health providers. With the largest HHCAHPS benchmark in the nation, SHP is in a unique position to identify and recognize organizations that have made patient experience a priority and have been rewarded for their efforts with high marks on the HHCAHPS survey. This recognition marks the fourth time that BVNA has earned this honor, following recognitions in 2022, 2023, and 2024.

"Providing excellent patient care takes relentless effort, and our SHPBest award winners embody that every year. This program lets us recognize the organizations that never settle, that keep improving the patient and caregiver experience even when they're already performing at a high level. That kind of commitment deserves to be celebrated," explained Jason Ballet, President of SHP.

"Being recognized by SHP as a Superior Performer for the fourth consecutive year in a row is an incredible affirmation of how the BVNA staff lives our organizational values of compassion and respect every day," said Tejas Gandhi, Chief Operating Officer, Berkshire Medical Center. "We are grateful to our dedicated team members whose commitment, year over year, makes a meaningful difference in the lives of our patients and their families."

Pittsfield: No E-Bikes on Sidewalk

By Brittany PolitoiBerkshires Staff

PITTSFIELD, Mass.— The city will place signage downtown to remind people that e-bikes are not allowed on the sidewalk.

On Monday, the Ordinances and Rules subcommittee heard an update about e-bike enforcement in response to a petition from Councilor at Large Kathy Amuso and Ward 3 Councilor Matthew Wrinn.

Commissioner of Public Services and Utilities Ricardo Morales confirmed that under Massachusetts law, it is illegal for any motorized bicycle, regardless of the class, to ride on the sidewalk.

"So, at this point, we will start installing some signage in the North Street area," he reported.

"Doing so for the whole city is going to be very cumbersome, and we're not going to be doing that, but I think there's something to be done in terms of education and outreach and enforcement citywide for that."

Pittsfield has begun to develop what that signage will look like in the downtown corridor. Amuso has received many complaints about the North Street and Elm Street areas; Morales said they could work to locate some key spots on Elm Street for signage.

"I know it's a citywide problem, but I think if we start on North Street and work our way out and come up with a plan, that would be good," she said.

The councilors petitioned to increase enforcement of bicycle and e-bike use on Pittsfield streets, install signage in high-traffic areas, and launch an educational program for kids.
