Triplex Cinema Hosts A Staged Reading of 'His Girl Friday'

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — The Triplex Cinema in Great Barrington will hold fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 19 with an abridged staged reading of the 1940 film classic "His Girl Friday."

Actors Michelle Gomez and her husband Jack Davenport will read the roles made famous by Rosalind Russell and Cary Grant.

According to a press release

BAFTA TV Award nominee Gomez, is known for her iconic role as Missy in "Doctor Who" as well as many other television shows and films. Her new film, "The Incomer," will be released nationwide this fall.  Davenport, an Olivier Acting Award recipient, is known for his roles on British and American TV, including the recent Apple TV hit  "The Morning Show" and Masterpiece’s "The Forsytes." He was Commodore James Norrington in all three of "The Pirates of the Caribbean" films. Both Gomez and Davenport are well-known stage actors on the West End in London, but this will be the first time they have ever shared the stage together.

Actor David Rasche, who recently starred on Broadway in "Cult of Love" and won an Emmy for "Succession," will read the role of the Mayor in this famous play about newspapermen. He will be joined on stage by a group of much-loved Berkshire actors and theater-makers: Kevin Coleman, Robert Zuckerman, David Joseph, Jim Frangione, MaConnia Chesser, Matt Neely, Greg Boover, Daniel Osman, John Viscardi, Thom Whaley, Maya Jackson, Chris Brophy, Robbie Robles, Dave Edson, and Kevin O’Rourke.  Matthew Penn will direct the staged reading. Penn has directed and or produced over 200 shows, most notably "Law and Order" for which he won an Emmy nomination for best director, as well as directed many of the "10 x 10" short plays at Barrington Stage.

The screenplay of "His Girl Friday" was adapted by Charles Lederer from Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur’s play "Front Page." The film was directed by Howard Hawkes and became part of the Criterion Collection in January 2017.

The staged reading will be held at Barrington Hall at 426 Stockbridge Road, Great Barrington, MA. The reading will start at 6pm, followed by a paddle raise and different culinary offerings.  Tickets are $100 and can be purchased by going to the website thetriplex.org.

Units Available at Lee's New Eagle Mill Housing Development

It's took more than a decade to bring the Eagle Lofts to fruition in the former Eagle mill. 

LEE, Mass. — Hearthway wants community members to know there are three-bedroom units available at The Lofts at Eagle Mill with little to no waitlist. 

The apartments at 73 West Center St. recently came online in the historic building on the banks of the Housatonic River after more than a decade of work. The first tenants began moving in last week. 

Three-bedroom units are less than $2,000 per month for those who meet income requirements. 

"These units are $1,855 a month with hot water included. To qualify, applicants must be under the 60 percent AMI income limit by household size and be able to afford the rent," the affordable housing provider wrote in a communication on Monday. 

"Mobile vouchers are welcomed."

A ribbon was cut at the former paper mill over the summer for 56 one- to three-bedroom, mixed-income units in the heart of downtown. 

According to a chart provided by Hearthway, 60 percent area median income is $55,320 per year for a one person household, $63,240 a year for a two-person household, $71,160 a year for a three-person household, and $79,020 a year for a four-person household.
