BCC Players, WAM to Stage 'The World of Louisa May'
PITTSFIELD, Mass — The Berkshire Community College Players and WAM Theatre announce plans to produce a devised theater piece called "The World of Louisa May."
Devised theater is a collaborative method of creating a performance from scratch without a pre-existing script.
The show draws inspiration from Louisa May Alcott, Abigail May Alcott and the world surrounding the classic novel "Little Women," with themes of family, women's voices, creativity, freedom and revolution, stated a press release.
First, a free forum will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 15, from 6-7:30 p.m. in Room K-111 in Koussevitzky Arts Center, located on BCC's main campus. The forum is open to current students, alumni and community members. Through introductory devising practices, participants will be introduced to the world of the play and have a chance to explore what it might mean to help build that world for the stage. No performance experience is necessary.
Next, auditions for the performance will he held Thursday and Friday, Sept. 17 and 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. in BCC's Robert Boland Theatre, also located on the main campus.
Finally, performances will be held at the Robert Boland Theatre from Dec. 10-13.

With the tagline "A girl's story is a quiet and loud revolution," the performance will feature an idealized apple orchard, a mythic place alive with the beauty of New England's seasons. The orchard links the early 1800s May family home on Federal Street in Boston to the Alcott family's mid-1800s home in Concord. Emerging from the American pastoral are remnants of a wood-frame house, a spinet piano said to have been gifted to Lizzy (Beth) by Sophia Thoreau; traces of Christmas; a small shelf-desk Bronson made for Louisa; a warm hearth; and an abundant supply of books.
