LENOX, Mass. — Biographer and arts journalist Tim Greiving, author of "John Williams: A Composer's Life," will speak at Lenox Library on Wednesday, Aug. 5, at 5 p.m.

 

Greiving's book is the first major biography of the legendary film composer and includes more than 20 hours of new interviews with Williams. He presents new research about Williams' ancestry and early years and provides a synthesis of archival interviews with and recorded history of Williams, combined with 175 new interviews with important collaborators and associates. 

 

During his presentation, the author will discuss the life and legacy of Williams, whose iconic scores have shaped the sound of modern cinema.

 

Greiving is an arts journalist in Los Angeles who specializes in film music. He has contributed stories to NPR, the Los Angeles Times, the Washington Post, and the New York Times. He has written program notes for the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Royal Albert Hall, and liner notes for more than one hundred soundtrack albums. He contributes to the Visual History Program for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and teaches film music history at the University of Southern California.

 

This event is free and open to the public. Copies of Greiving's book will be available for purchase and signing courtesy of The Bookstore.
