Wahconah Softball Tops Taconic

DALTON, Mass. – Madison McCarthy went 3-for-3 with a grand slam and five RBIs Wednesday to lead the Wahconah softball team to an 8-4 win over Taconic.
 
Mariah Barnes was 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI in an eight-hit attack for Wahconah, which took the lead with a four-run first inning to make it 4-2.
 
“Great team win against a very good Taconic team,” Wahconah coach Dustin Belcher said. “I’m proud of the way we responded to being down, 2-0.”
 
Taconic fought back to within a run at 5-4, but Barnes’ RBI double to left in the bottom of the fifth brought home Audrey Wildrick. And the hosts added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to seal the win.
 
Marlee Arnhold went the distance in the circle to earn the win. She struck out nine and walked one.
 
Taconic’s Abby Bliss went all six innings in the circle for the Thunder.
 
She also tripled and drove in a run to help her cause. Abby Soto started the game with a one-out, two-run home run for Taconic.
 
Kylie Duhamel was 2-for-3 with a double in a 10-hit Taconic attack.
 
The Thunder (2-2) hosts Hopkins Academy on Friday.
 
Wahconah (2-0) hosts Westfield on Friday.
