PITTSFIELD, Mass. – In the continuation of a match that started on April 20, the Mount Greylock girls tennis team Thursday edged Pioneer Valley Chinese Immersion Charter, 3-2, behind seventh-grader Lila Bergeron.

Bergeron was down in the first set, 5-2, and she ended up losing that set but came back to win the match, 3-6, 6-4, 6-0, at third singles.

“With the match starting over vacation, both teams were missing some of their regular players,” Mount Greylock coach John Jacobbe said. “Lila moved from her regular second doubles to play third singles for us and boy did she step up today.

“I am super proud of Lila today. She continues to get better and better and had a huge match deciding win for us today.”

Each team was down at least a player from the seven who started the match in April, leading to each team forfeiting one point.

In addition to Bergeron’s win at third singles, the Mounties’ got singles wins from Scarlett Foley at No. 1 and Molly Karampatsos at No. 2.

The young Mount Greylock squad improved to 7-3 heading into Friday’s home match against Monument Mountain.

“We have three seventh graders in our starting lineup,” Jacobbe said. “Scarlett has played phenomenally all year at first singles. Lila and her partner, Maddie Love, have played in almost every match for us. The future can be bright for Greylock girls tennis.”
