County Individuals Meet Sees Big Performances

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – One all-time county record fell, another was tied and the top athletes of the 2026 track and field season were recognized on Saturday at Mount Greylock.
The Mounties’ 4-by-100 relay quartet of Luca Mellow-Bartels, Max Easton, Kofi Roberts and Mason Canata set a new standard in the event with a time of 43.37 seconds – .12 seconds faster than the time set by a Pittsfield High quartet in 2019.
In the field, Wahconah’s Cooper Calvert continued his assault on the record books in the high jump by clearing 6 feet, 8.5 inches – more than 10 inches higher than the field and tied with Monument Mountain’s Arty Gennari, who set that mark in 2005.
Calvert will have at least two more chances to beat Gennari in competition: at next week’s Western Massachusetts Championships at Hampshire Regional and the Division 6 State Championships on May 30 at Westfield State.
Rewriting the county record book has been a theme this season.
Three athletes hit the track at Saturday’s Berkshire County Individuals with county records in their back pockets: Mount Greylock’s Teresa Moresi, who reset her county mark in winning the pole vault (9-6) and Monument Mountain’s Everett Pacheco and Siddy Culbreth.
Pacheco, who holds the Berkshire marks in the mile and 2-mile runs, won the 800 meters and the mile on Saturday. Culbreth, currently the top-ranked 10th-grade triple jumper in the nation, is the county standard-bearer in that event and the long jump and won both at the BCI.
The best individual performance at the Individuals was, not surprisingly, turned in by Mount Greylock’s Rowan Apotsos, who was named the league’s MVP by the county’s coaches.
Apotsos won the 200 meters, 400 meters and triple jump.
The sophomore was an all-Berkshire County performer last year and helped the Mounties win their second straight D6 State title. She said she has pushed herself to get to the point where she was a clear choice as the area’s best performer.
“It’s always the goal to PR [set a personal record] in all my events, and, if I did that, I had a good chance of this,” Apotsos said. “It was definitely a goal.”
As Rowan did with the Mount Greylock girls, William Apotsos led the Mounties’ boys to another undefeated dual meet season and earned league MVP on the boys side in the process.
It was a bittersweet moment when he joined his fellow all-County honorees late in Saturday’s meet. Will bruised his ankle during his run in the 110-meter hurdles, an event where he holds the county’s best time this spring.
“My ankle hurts because I did smash it against the hurdles, but, other than that, I’m feeling pretty proud,” he said. “I’ve tried to work as hard as I can during the regular season, and I’m glad to see it paid off.”
Apotsos said his ankle suffered “just a bruise,” leaving open the possibility of post-season runs over the next couple of weeks.
Either way, he plans to continue competing after high school. He is headed to the University of Michigan, where he wants to compete for the club track and field team.
His Mount Greylock teammates picked up their share of first place finishes on Saturday.
In addition to the record-setting 4-by-100 relay, Mount Greylock’s boys won the meet-ending 4-by-400 in dramatic fashion, edging Wahconah by one one-hundredth of a second.
Three boys were double-winners on Saturday: Culbreth, Pacheco and Pittsfield’s Emmanuel Anwomeah, who swept the 100 and the 200.
In the girls meet, in addition to Rowan Apotsos’ triple, her teammate Coralea Lash-St. John doubled in the 100 hurdles and 400 hurdles.
