NBCC to Host 14th Annual 'Back-Packed for Success'

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Northern Berkshire Community Coalition (nbCC) is hosting its 13th annual back-to-school event for school-aged kids for local Northern Berkshire students entering pre-K through 12th grade.

This includes homeschooled students. Students will receive a free backpack to fill with school supplies. 

The event for families living in Florida and Savoy will be located at Gabriel Abbott Memorial School, 56 North County Road, Florida on Tuesday, Aug. 11 from 5:00p.m. to 6:00pm. Families picking up from Florida and Savoy will receive pre-packed backpacks and will be contacted to choose the color of their child's backpack.

The event for families living in Williamstown, North Adams, Clarksburg, Adams, and Cheshire will be located at the St. Elizabeth's of Hungary Parish Center on St. Anthony Drive, North Adams on Thursday, August 13 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. Families picking up at this location should bring their children to choose their backpacks and school supplies at the event.

This event requires pre-registration to ensure there are enough backpacks and supplies ready for each child, as supplies are limited. Families can register online at: https://forms.gle/rGpoMUE4XbZ9WNiL7 or by contacting nbCC's Family Resource Center at (413) 663-7588 to register.

Steeplecats' Comeback Bid Falls Short in Connecticut

BRISTOL, Conn. -- The Blues held off a ninth-inning comeback bid by the North Adams SteepleCats Tuesday to earn a 4-3 win in New England Collegiate Baseball League action.
 
Nelphi Lopez singled with two out in the ninth to drive in Alex Barrist and put Matthew Colella on second with the potential tying run.
 
But Bristol pitcher Thomas Galusha got a fly ball to right field to end the game.
 
Lopez went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, and Colella was 2-for-5 with a double for North Adams.
 
SteepleCats starter Niklas Pavia gave up two runs in five innings of work on the mound.
 
North Adams (9-29) is scheduled to go to Sanford, Maine, on Wednesday for a double-header.
