LONDONDERRY, N.H. – The Greylock Thunder 18U travel softball team Saturday bounced back from its first loss in pool play to earn a 7-2 win and earn a 3-1 record at the New England Fusion College Showcase.
Greylock’s day started against the Connecticut Lightning, which jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first and went on to a 3-1 victory.
Marlee Arnhold (1-for-2) drove in Evelyn Julieano (1-for-2) for the Thunder’s run in the top of the fifth.
Arnhold also went the distance in the circle, striking out four and walking just one in five innings of work.
Greylock went right back to work against the Plex Gold Pelletier out of Bedford, N.H.
The Thunder used a five-run second inning to take control and went on to a 7-2 win.
Paxton Ebling and Emma Lemire led the offense.
Ebling went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs. Lemire finished the game 2-for-2 in a six-hit Thunder attack.
Abby Soto was 1-for-2 with a pair of RBIs.
Lemire went five innings in the circle to earn the complete-game win, allowing just one earned run.
Greylock opens bracket play in the 17-team tournament on Sunday.

Q&A with First District Incumbent John Barrett III

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — On Sept. 1, voters in the First Berkshire District will decide whether they want to send a new representative to Beacon Hill in Boston.
John Barrett III has served the district in the State House of Representatives since 2017, when he was elected in a special election.
He is challenged this time around in the Democratic Party primary by Andrew Fitch, currently a city councilor in North Adams, where Barrett served as mayor for 26 years.
There is no Republican on the primary ballot for the First Berkshire seat so the primary will effectively be the election for the seat.
The two candidates met for their only debate on Aug. 13 at Williams College. iBerkshires.com reached out to both candidates to follow up on some of the points raised in the debate and get their thoughts on some other issues facing the district.
Below are excerpts from a conversation with incumbent John Barrett III:
Question: In addition to being a chance to talk to your constituents, a campaign is an opportunity to listen. What are you hearing about this summer?
