MassDOT: South County Daytime Paving and Bridge Work on I-90

WEST STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing it will be performing daytime paving and bridge work on I-90 eastbound and westbound in the towns of Stockbridge, West Stockbridge, Becket, Montgomery, and Russell.

All work is weather dependent and will take place at the following locations and times:

Stockbridge/West Stockbridge:

  • Paving work will be conducted on I-90 eastbound and westbound from mile marker 0.0 to mile marker 7.8 from Monday, Oct. 20, through Friday, Oct. 24, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Bridge work will be conducted on I-90 eastbound from mile marker 0.0 to mile marker 10.0 from Monday, Oct. 20, through Friday, Oct. 24, from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Becket:

  • Bridge work will be conducted on I-90 eastbound and westbound at mile marker 18.4 from Monday, Oct. 20, through Friday, Oct. 24, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Bridge painting work will be conducted on I-90 eastbound and westbound at mile marker 20.0 from Monday, Oct. 20, through Friday, Oct. 24, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Montgomery/Russell:

  • Bridge repairs will be conducted on I-90 westbound at mile marker 36.0 on Monday, Oct. 20, Tuesday, October 21, Wednesday, Oct. 22, and Friday, Oct. 24, from 6:00 a.m. to noon.
  • Bridge repairs will be conducted on I-90 eastbound at mile marker 36.0 on Thursday, Oct.  23, from 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.

Appropriate signage and law enforcement details will be in place to guide drivers through the work area.

Drivers traveling through the area should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution.

All scheduled work is weather dependent and subject to change without notice.

Great Barrington Unveils 9/11 Memorial Featuring World Trade Center Steel

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — A piece of history will now stand in front of the Great Barrington Fire Department, serving as a lasting reminder of the courage, sacrifice, and heroism of those who rushed in, stepped forward, and answered the call on Sept. 11, 2001.
 
Hundreds of community members gathered outside the Fire Department for the unveiling of a 9/11 memorial featuring a steel I-beam salvaged from the wreckage of the World Trade Center.
 
The monument marks the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks, and its effect reached far and wide beyond New York, said Deputy Fire Chief James Mead.
 
"There are moments in our lives that become markers of time. Moments when we remember not only what happened, but where we were, who was beside us, and how the world somehow felt different afterwards," Town Manager Liz Hartsgrove said. 
 
"For those of us who experienced September 11, 2001 — it is one of those moments for us to share."
 
The acquisition of the beam was a multi-year effort initiated by the late Andy Moro, former commander of American Legion Post 298 in Housatonic, and was carried on by the Legion's second vice commander, John Morris. 
 
Morris said he was able to obtain the warped steel I-beam through connections he made during his time as a New York City firefighter.
