'JACOB'S PILLOW IN LEE, MASS.' OPENING RECEPTION
Lee, 4 p.m.
Curated by Joshua Bloom, this exhibit in the Scolforo Gallery at the Lee Library traces the long and often overlooked relationship between the internationally renowned dance hub in Becket and the neighboring town of Lee from the early 1930s to today.
 
Pamela Tatge, executive and artistic director of Jacob's Pillow, will attend the opening reception at the library. The exhibit runs through June 30.

HISTORY OF LEE SENIORS DANCING AT JACOB'S PILLOW
Lee, 11 to noon

Researcher Joshua D. Bloom will present the history of Lee senior citizens performing at Jacob's Pillow from 1985-1993. This is part of the "Jacob's Pillow in Lee, Mass." exhibit at the Lee Library through June 30. 

In 1985, 1986 and 1992 older community members from the Lee Senior Center worked with renowned choreographer Liz Lerman to prepare for an Inside/Out performance called "Still Crossing." Watcht exclusive videos of these seniors rehearsing, performing, and being interviewed and learn more about how these productions came together.

This is a free event that will be held at the Lee Council on Aging at 21 Crossway St. in Lee. Lunch to follow.

'SECRET' GAY HISTORY OF JACOB'S PILLOW

Explore how gay history is intertwined with Jacob's Pillow's very beginnings, often hiding in plain sight. Norton Owen, historian and founding director of preservation for Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, will speak at the Lee Library. Sponsored by Berkshire Pride and Berkshire Stonewall Community Coalition.

This event is part of a June 2026 exhibit, "Jacob's Pillow in Lee, Mass." at in the Scolforo Gallery at the Lee Library. 

This exhibit is made possible, in part, through a grant from the Lee Cultural Council, a local agency funded by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.

'SECRET' LGBTQ+ HISTORY OF LEE WALKING TOUR
Lee, 12:30 - 2 p.m.

As part of Lee Pride, walk Lee's secret LGBTQ-plus history together. Researcher Joshua D. Bloom will lead this free tour, exploring stories that were often whispered, hidden, or erased. He'll be talking about law, art, religion, illness, courage, cruelty, and pride. 

The tour begins at Park Square and will take 1.5-2 hours and is less than a mile. Part of the "Jacob's Pillow in Lee, Mass." exhibit at the Lee Library through June.

A Blues Maestro Redefining the Genre

Emanuel Casablanca, a native of Brooklyn, New York, emerges as a beacon of authenticity and passion in the realm of blues and blues-rock music. With his upcoming third studio album, "Hollywood Forever," poised for release on April 11, 2025, Casablanca continues to enthrall audiences with his unparalleled talent and boundless creativity.

 

Throughout his illustrious career, Casablanca has left an indelible mark on the music industry, collaborating with an impressive array of legendary musicians. From Grammy-nominated Eric Gales to world-renowned guitarist Paul Gilbert, and Blues Music Award winners Albert Castiglia and Jimmy Carpenter, Casablanca's discography reads like a who's who of the blues world. His previous albums have seen him join forces with the likes of Blues Music Award nominee Kat Riggins, Elliot Sharp Blues Music Award nominee Joanna Connor, bassist and producer Bill Laswell, and drummer Daxx Nielsen, among others.

 

But Casablanca's impact transcends mere musical collaborations. As an outlaw blues musician unafraid to confront societal injustices head-on, he has founded The Emanuel Casablanca Foundation, a platform dedicated to promoting human rights and social justice causes worldwide. Through the foundation, Casablanca seeks to raise awareness and support for nonprofit organizations addressing a myriad of issues, from civil rights to environmental sustainability via live performances and event production. One of these events include the Hudson Blues & Comedy Festival, which will premiere on Juneteenth 2025 in Hudson, New York.
